Happy February and Packages!

Hi everyone and a very happy Wednesday 1st February to you! As my hubby reminded me, that one twelfth of the year 2012 gone already! Now that makes you realise how time flies!

Today I was so excited when I got home from town to see TWO packages tucked into my porch - very appropriate as one was from Steph of Front Porch Primitives - it was her giveaway package! Yaay I wasted no time opening it up and knew the perfect place to display this oh-so-cute prim stump doll in a sweet hanging pouch all handmade by Steph! Thanks so much Steph - I love this so much!
Here she is!

I hung it on the little cupboard in the corner of my kitchen/family room and where I decorated the little tree for Valentines Day.

The other parcel on my doorstep was something I bought myself from one of the few primitive online stores in the UK. I knew it would be just right hanging on the door of my little wall cupboard and the taper light came too! Don't you think it's just the ticket?

I'm lovin' the overall prim look here! It takes a while but it will need a few more bits n' pieces!
It's time to make tea now for my hungry growing kids but I thank you all for your comments and company! It's good to know you're there!

Heart to Heart

A hearty welcome this cold January day! I've finished some Valentine's hearts and hung some itty bitty homespun hearts on this little tree I made at Christmas but kept out for now~

The little Valentine cross stitch pillow was a freebie from Primitive Betty's which I did last year.

This heart shaped pillow was a quick make and I couldn't resist a bit of humor in the saying as if a schoolgirl made the spelling mistake and didn't realise the difference bears/bares makes!

This Cupid is made from tea stained cotton and he has a key necklace and is holding a heart -

I wanted to share this beautifully stitched pinkeep from my free pattern which Cathi shared with me. Thanks so much Cathi, it's so pretty the way you finished it!

Fun Read - A LOG CABIN CHRISTMAS

I've had my nose stuck in this book all week so I've no stitching to share, sadly but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My SIL let me borrow it and I've been lost to the 21st century this week to be immersed in pioneer times in America. I love historical novels and romances - my excuse is it might be entitled' A Log Cabin Christmas', but it's almost Feb 14 and we love some romance in the air!

So if you love Little House on the Prairie etc and you want a fun , light but uplifting read, I can recommend this collection of short stories.

I just want to give you all a smile this weekend by quoting some of the funny children's sayings from the first story in the book - but don't worry, I won't give the story away!
Remember it's set at Christmas time so the children have been asked to relate something from the Christmas nativity.

First finish and a Question

It's only taken me to Jan. 21st but eventually I got needle and thread to connect and this is what I stitched up this week.

It was a freebie pattern and as I printed it off a year ago, I'm sorry for not being able to tell you where it comes from, apart from on my printout it says 'dessine par Maryse'.

Update: I thought I better do a bit of research via google and sure enough I found the link to Maryse's wonderful stitching blog and all the free charts she has posted so here's the link:

It was definitely an exercise in patience! as I spent quite a bit of time ripping out to start again!
I thought I'd make it into a heart shaped hanging pillow. If you're interested in buying this it is for sale priced £7.00.

I got a great surprise this week when I found out I was the lucky winner of Stephani's 'Friendly' giveaway on her blog Front Porch Primitives which you should to visit! This is what I am so excited to have won, made by Steph's own hands! So precious, thanks Steph!

One of the things I'm turning over in my mind this year is whether or not to keep 2 blogs on the go and just sell anything I get time to make from this blog as it is the main one? Any thoughts or input would be great.

But my most important question relates to another issue I've been deliberating on... I don't know if I have the nerve - some might say the audacity - to sell some patterns for cross stitch and other makedo's.

Sooooo, what I'd really love to know is whether or not anyone would be interested and what kind of a price for patterns do you think is reasonable?

I must also thank each of you who left a comment on my last post to wish us well and pray for us. In some instances in life we need to learn afresh that we are powerless but that God has promised never to leave us or forsake us. I have been comforted by just a two word phrase:
'God knows'. There are the diamond mines of God, if we meditate on them!

I've been needing a blog break - there are lots of things going on at home and in my family but I am just leaving these things with the Lord.

My Christmas Gift to You!

Thank you all for following my dubious ramblings and cheering me on this year! I'm so glad to have a place to share my need for some sort of creativity and you've all been so encouraging!

So by way of thanks here's a freebie cross stitch for Christmas and I sincerely hope you enjoy stitching it up!

This is how I made mine up on 28ct natural pearl linen~I love how the red ticking makes it all the more festive!

So here's the pattern - I used DMC red 498 floss and white (blanc), 2 strands over 2.

I still need to put finishing touches to my Christmas decorating - I need more lights as some broke and I have to gather some more greenery for displays... so lots to enjoy!

SEASON'S BLESSINGS!

Here's how I painted it...

Hi everyone!
Susan over at Glen Oaks Primitives asked me to share a bit of a tutorial on how I painted my latest wall cupboard, which I showed you in my last post. I'm more than a bit shy of doing this as I'm no expert, but I'll gladly share with anyone who's interested just what steps I took and paint used in this make over.

If you know me at all, I'm the impatient - I want to have it finished before I've started kind of person so this was a relatively simple make over!!!

This was the only 'before shot I have of the cupboard which was purchased from ebay. It was shabby chic in style and my mother couldn't believe it when I 'ruined' it by painting it black!

First though, it needed a light sanding to remove the wax coating and residue paint but I didn't strip it right back.

Next I used Dulux Midnight Black matt emulsion paint and just gave it one coat of this and let it dry.

Here's the bit where I was tempted to throw it away when I applied the next coat of paint which was Dulux Ruby Red matt emulsion but it does go on in this lurid pinkish tone!

After letting it dry, all I had to do was stain it with a teak varnish but the best way I found to do it was to remove as much varnish from your brush as possible and paint the surface and then using a clean old rag, lightly wipe over it so that the stain is not too deep. It really does help kill the pinkish tone!
And there you have it!
Before I head off, I'll share what I got in the mail today- like an early Christmas!
Another ebay purchase (from a 'local' primitive saltbox lover!!) and a bit of a treat for myself - my very first hooked rug! Really pleased with my new snowman rug!

And I have sighed contentedly and stroked these gorgeous wool bundles which came all the way from Rhode Island -l you wool lovers out there know what I'm talking about!!

Now I need to put them to good use before the 25th! Watch this space!

Happy! Not just coz it's Friday!!

Eventually! I've finally got a few minutes to get onto my blog and play catch up! It's been another busy week but I don't really understand how we got to Dec 9th already?? And I can barely bring myself to confess it but I've not really got all the Christmas decorating finished!
I would like to thank all of you for your wonderful comments on my burlap tree - it's just so good to share with other who appreciate these things, so I was really thrilled by all of your comments THANK YOU!

But as the title of this post says, at least I'm happy! I'm not stressing about it - just going to simplify and enjoy my loved ones company and the blessedness of the Savior's birth.

I have a couple things to show you in preparation for our homespun Christmas as I'm calling it this year! I made a smaller burlap tree and also the green wool felt tree to add to my collection!and a feather tree also~
It definitely is homespun as you can see I used a tree branch and it makes it a bit misshapen but primitively so - that my reasoning anyhow!!!

Well, as usual with me, one thing leads to another! When I'd finished the tree I realised I'd nothing suitable to place it on! Soooo it was off to the wool collection to find bits and pieces for a more seasonal penny mat - you can see I'm really keeping it simple - I did say I was simplifying this year lol!Next thing I'm thinking is.... it's still kinda empty.... just needs something else to finish it off...
A little Christmas bird! So it's back to the wool pile, draw a quick bird template, stitch it up and add a few details and voila! A red wool bird to sit under the tree on the mat!
But I 've saved the best to last for my main reason for doing a happy dance is that I finally persuaded DH to hang not just one, but two!!! cupboards for me - this I have wanted for a verrrrryy loooonnnnggg time! I'm NOT going to tell you how long they've been languishing on the floor in a dusty corner!
This one I bought on ebay and repainted it to primify it~ first a coat of black:

Then red which I know looks a scary pink in this pic!

And the transformation is complete with some stain and I got myself a lovely little prim red cupboard to display little pots and jars! Whaddya think?It's in the family/den area just off the kitchen~ I'm trying to make it my Americana area:

Down in my craft room there was room in the corner for this old pine open shelf cupboard, into which I hastily placed a few things as I need to get stuck into the Christmas decorating proper!
So that was the week, that was! And am I ready for the weekend! LOTS to do so I'll be back with some more Christmassy pics soon!

New Burlap Tree LOVE!

Hey folks It's the month for all things CHRISTMAS!! Happy 1st of December, friends!

Well to explain the title of my post here's my latest creation and I am so pleased with it, I LOVE IT !! I love this burlap- created Christmas tree ! - what do you make of my new makedo tree for Christmas?

I placed it on the stairs to give you a better idea of its size - it's over 2 ft tall on an old spindle.

Burlap is GREAT for x stitch motifs which is what I did using Christmas colored flosses for Santa and his deer and the snowflakes!

Here's a close up~

I could have backed it in burlap but I had another idea if you want a reversible tree so to speak! On the reverse I sewed wool pennies on to the homespun for an alternative!

My littlest daughter likes this side better but I prefer the x stitch side -much more prim!

Quick Peek in through the door...

Welcome one and all! It's been a week of this, that and the other for me -rather disorganised, I must confess and not as much accomplished as I hoped.

As I was coming back to my wee craft den after lunch today the door was slightly ajar and the sun was streaming in so I thought, 'Oh, why not?!!' Just a quick peek in through the door where I like to mess about! As you can see there is no room to sit on the rocker - it's still full of fall pillows etc! and there's stuff on the floor as that's where I end up most of the time!

I just got a couple of things finished that have been lying around.
This stocking is from a Country Stitches pattern but still needs tea dyed~

And the only other thing I tried was making a twiggy wreath - I've been wanting to try this for ages. It takes alot of practise and I'll have to try again... more twigs needed.

Before I go I'd appreciate help from my blogging friends. I'm looking for wood turned bases for makedo's, something to use instead of spindles. If you know of an internet site where I could buy some please let me know as I can't find anything.

More and more like Christmas!

Hello again! Another weekend past and a new week before us... and the countdown to Christmas well and truly underway in our house. It's the main topic of conversation amongst the kids and they have written lists and put in requests .... now all we need is the good behavior! LOL!

I did manage to complete one more thing from my list. It had to be a quickie and this snowman nodder was just the ticket~

I picked up a little treat for myself when out shopping - a lantern for my shelf

We went to the Christmas tree lighting up parade on Friday night but the town was packed and it was difficult to get a good view but we moved on up the route and saw the parade better. I think the theme was Christmas from around the world. There were some amazing costumes and decorated floats but my pics don't do them justice.

Pinkeeps Done!

Happy Friday, folks! I'm ready for a nice weekend as it's been a hectic week!

I've been stitching furiously to get these pinkeeps done and get 2 more things ticked off my list!
These are the first Pineberry Lane x stitch patterns I've used and I have to say I love them, they really are primitive, and the subdued colors used really take you back to a simpler Christmas!

Tonight we are going into town for the switching on of the Christmas Tree lights and there is always a parade with the primary school children in it and wonderful costumes and lots of good cheer of course!

Hello dear blogging friends! How are things with you?

I think I detect a bit of the Christmas spirit creeping in to blogland lately and I'm enjoying it.
I know Thanksgiving is still to come for those in the US, but as we don't have such a tradition in the UK, ( I'm thankful no matter!) it's full steam ahead for Christmas with us!

I read last week in Cathy of Tolentreasures blog of her challenge list with 30 things onit that she would like to get done before Dec. 25. Now I think her list is more like 50 things but she's getting thru things so quickly, go check out her blog, if you haven't already!

Well I may have taken leave of my senses but I've decided to join in this challenge - yes you can say, MAD as a Hatter! but it just might help me to stay focused and accomplish more and finish up those UFO's. Now I had to give myself a reality check and although I had 30 things on my list, I am aiming to get at least 20 things done.

Here are the 2 things checked off my list today - this is a punch needle tree and snowman - remember in my last post I said I needed white DMC floss? STILL none in my local sewing shop and as I was desperate to finish this I used the DMC sparkly thread instead which is good for snow but it's so much harder to work with.

Thanks to Shazy and Jordan for help with the pattern!

And secondly here is one pillow I'm glad to finish for my ever-patient 12 y.o. daughter! She has wanted me to make her an owl pillow for her bedroom for ages and I put it off long enough, feeling bad about not keeping my word so it's done! What do you think? I love it myself!

It fits in so nicely with her bedroom color scheme~ she choose it all from IKEA last year.
(Why is it I only just noticed the pictures need straightening? lol)

The list is still long so I'd better get to it!

It's started again...

It's started again... I'm talking about that seasonal disorder that overtakes me in the weeks before Christmas. I seem to go into a spin and start too many things at once!

I just love Christmas decorating and all the usual things like snowmen, gingerbread men, Santas and Christmas trees.

So today I was a bit more disciplined and made myself finish off these - they've been sitting around in various stages of completion...

The Santa on a spool (above) was a free pattern from the Chocolate Crow Trader and I made the tree too.

Remember the pattern tutorial from the Primitive Pantry for the mouse? I got 2 made so far~

They are really easy to make! And that suits me as I need to get things moving along!

Another free pattern from the Chocolate Crow Trader which I adapted and created these sleepy time owlets
finally here's a cute mouse getting ready for Christmas with some greenery and a giant candy cane~
How are your Christmas preparations coming along?

Stay tuned for I have some new ideas to share soon but first I need more supplies.

Yesterday I went to my local sewing shop but they were out of white DMC floss!!
I NEED lots of it for the items I'm trying to finish.
Oh well, patience is a virtue so I'm told!

Nov 1st and a Breath of Fresh Air!

Here we are on the 1st of Nov and I hope we all have a good one!

My kiddos are off school all this week for half term break and am I glad to see blue skies and sunshine today! It was so lovely to get out and about in the country side lanes around our home and make some use of our bicycles!

I just thought you might enjoy some sunshine and blue skies so I snapped some pics of our countryside in Autumn glory!

Across the fields and rolling hills where sheep graze and you can just see a red barn tucked in there too...

I love the rickety old barn across the glen~

Had to snap a pic of the ivy blossom filling the hedgerow~
We cycled to an ancient landmark and beauty spot a few miles from home.
It's called a motte and bailey and were ancient fortifications built almost 900 years ago to defend against marauders and rival clans in Ireland. Huge mounds of earth were created as obviously height was an advantage.

This gives a better idea of how it was made and used~

It is almost like a fairy glen but that just me and my day dreaming imagination!!
See the old horse chestnut tree~

This is a view east from the top of the bailey to an old mill which has since been converted into apartments. The old chimney still stands.
My kids love climbing to the top and in summer they slide down the near vertical sides!
This is the view down towards the river so it really was a good spot to build a fort.

Now I just need to catch my breath though I have so enjoyed the fresh air today!

Hi everyone - here's wishing you a lovely weekend what ever the weather :-)

Hope yours is off to a better start than mine as I've just had to have a molar pulled. All week I have had increased tenderness and then PAIN in my jaw so much so that I knew I was in trouble when I couldn't eat or even sip hot tea and i love my food and my cuppas! lol!

I had a better night's sleep and even enjoyed lukewarm tea today so things are on the up!

Hello and Giveaway Reminder

Hello everyone!

Seems we get busier and busier. Here's what I've been doing - finished this Christmas sampler for an order - put me right in the mood for Christmas too!And I also made this penny mat from a freebie pattern I came across on Bits of Wool blog.

I have it for sale on my selling blog The Primitive Shelf along with some other items which have been reduced.

I'm so looking forward to starting on some Christmas decorations and projects, like this one from the Primitive Pantry I can't believe autumn is flying past so quickly and winter will be upon soon. There are already reports of snow coming in week or so - way too early for my liking!
We've had to put on the central heating to take the chill out of the house in the afternoons.
And it's so much harder to get up in the mornings when it's dark and the wind's howling outside!

So it's best to cozy up and just enjoy some stitchin' therapy!

What to do on a Wet Weekend!

Hello from a wet and wintry Ireland. It's been rainy and dull all weekend so we cheered ourselves up in the kitchen by making chocolate mallow fudge! It's delicious and really quick and easy to make ! My oldest daughter very thoughtfully cut some up and wrapped them up to give as little Halloween treats for her friends and I'll definitely be making some more for Christmas gifts.Thanks again to Tanya for supplying the Happy Halloween ribbon!
Here's the recipe if you're interested:

3 oz butter
10 oz light brown sugar
4 1/2 oz evaporated milk
8 oz marshmallows
10 1/2 oz chopped milk chocolate
3 oz chopped dark chocolate (60% cocoa solids minimum)

Grease and line an 8" square baking tin
Melt the butter, sugar and milk together in saucepan over a low heat.
When melted, add the mallows - turn heat up and boil for 5 minutes.
Take off the heat and add all the chocolate and stir until melted.
Pour into tin and leave to set for at least 3 hours - when cooled you can put it in the fridge and it sets better. Then cut into cubes and try to resist nibbling....!

It was also a good chance to do some cross stitch - this one I love doing time and again from Primitive Betty's

Surprise in the Mail for ME!

Today is one of those days I am amazed and soooo, soooo blessed by a special blogging friend, whom I have never met in person but am thankful at least we have connected thru blogging!

Tanya of Friendship Crossing sent me a surprise b'day gift which has just landed on my door mat and when I saw the Kentucky address I couldn't speak for astonishment that someone would even send me sthg from all the way across the ocean!

Tanya is a wonderful cross stitcher and made this great sewing pouch in such fun fabric!
But it was filled with a cross stitcher's dream selection of linens in different tones and counts - something I wouldn't be able to find over here!

I LOVE these buttons!

And I can't wait to do this snowman cross stitch!
Tanya must have known I love vintage sewing pieces - isn't this great?

And there were more needles and ribbon and a cute notepad and even Stride spearmint gum!
It was an awesome package and I couldn't take it all in at once!

So Tanya THANK YOU so much for making my day - you brought tears to my eyes with your thoughtfulness and friendship! So glad our paths have crossed!

Special Gifts from a Special Friend!

We often see that sign saying 'Faith, Family & Friends' and today I know how blessed I am with all three of special gifts from God.

A special friend of mine some of you know as Shazy of Country Prims blog gave me a wonderful birthday box of her own handmade treasures. I am over the moon with these and I know you will be too!

Isn't this just the best fall woolie tree you've seen with the little mini pumpkins on it?!!! How fantastic!Forgive me for going on about it, but I L O V E it!! Thank you so much, Shazy!
But as if that wasn't enough, Shazy also made this wool crazy tree for Christmas and now I can't wait for Christmas
Just wanted to share a few more pics of fall things at home like this little tree I keep in the kitchen all year round - i just cut felt pumpkins out and got some tiny candy corn buttons and put them on it~

Ad this is at the end of the hallway before you go into the kitchen, I strung out the Indian corn as a garland and placed my pumpkin doll on the stacking stools beneath.

Birthday Cake Anyone?

HURRY - there isn't much left!!! Chocolate cake is my favorite and I've had a slice (or two!!!)
since it is my birthday today! Yes, I'm officially 42 today!

I went out to lunch with a good friend which was lovely.

I haven't had much time to get sewing but I finished up this a punch needle candy corn with a pumpkin head - honestly and truthfully - what do you make of her?I used cinnamon sticks for her arms and legs~

She even has a little candy corn necklace!

I also wanted to thank you all for your comments on my previous post - you were more than kind and I value your opinions and help!

Woolie Bits & Pieces!

Hello again! I had the best of intentions of posting earlier in the week but we all know how time seems to be speeding by and so another week has rolled by. But I have been keeping busy - there are just too many ideas I want to stitch into reality and more than enough fall ideas to work through in my craft room!

Wool was calling to me all week and this is what I came up with for my table - just a plain and simple penny mat with scalloped edges done in fall tones~ what do think?

And thank you Granny Trace! You have inspired me with your woolie Wednesday posts and I had to make me some tuck pillows for fall!

If I've learned anything about myself since I started crafting, it's that I am like a bunny rabbit - I hop from one type of needlework to another very quickly! So whilst working on the woolie pieces, I took a notion to do some punchneedle and made this Jack-o'-Lantern into a little pouch to hang from a peg shelf~

I've even started another punch needle project, but my does it use up a lot of thread/floss! I'm going to have to take up residence at my local supplies shop!! If any of you have any tips on making punch needle tighter and gap free, please let me know!

Fall Jack and Window Blinds

Happy Saturday everyone!

Been having a very busy but satisfying one here! When you get things DONE it feel s soooo great! The sense of accomplishment is enjoyable right now!

I don't often get bargains on ebay but I bought this pattern last week and made this guy~

Would you please welcome Jack, ready for Fall!
He's really quite tall, about 26" or so and is for sale on my selling blog!

Thought I'd try and hide the switch with the basket but guess you've all seen it already! DOH!

The other major task completed and ticked off my To-Do list was to finish and hang the Window blinds for my 2 kitchen windows. Now they are not the 'prim-est' of blinds but the fabric is a near perfect match for the tiling and colors used in our kitchen.
I bought a roman blind kit and after waiting so long I'm pleased with the outcome~

(sorry this one's so dark)
This is the large window overlooking the back garden~
The colors inthe kitchen are pretty much neutral creams and beige with accent black tiles and counter tops .
I found these little crab apples along the road and put them in a little basket for a touch of color
and here's another little fall gathering in the kitchen~

So that's my Saturday and there's one more favorite treat to look forward to - DH is bringing Chinese food home for dinner - no burnt offerings tonight then! LOL!

Pumpkin Greeter Tutorial

Feelin' like fall alright!! We've had very cool evenings and mornings this past week and naturally enough, thoughts turn to fall decorating.

As I was rummaging thru some of my past pieces I came across this pumpkin greeter and decided I'd share with my friends and do a quick wee tutorial so you can make one yourself for Fall!

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Pumpkin colored fabric or plain cotton you could paint and tea stain in a pumpkin color, about 12" x 12" when doubled over.
Small pieces of green and brown felt/fabric
Cheesecloth
pipberry
Fiberfill
Glue gun
Basic sewing supplies
Black paint for the crow
Rusty wire - about 15 -20" in length should do!

DIRECTIONS:

Using the pattern below, cut out your pumpkin shape template
Trace around this template on your doubled piece of fabric - remember this trace line is your stitch line so you will need to cut out from this line approx. 1/4"
Sew together leaving a gap on the base of the pumpkin for stuffing.
Only stuff until lightly and evenly filled out and close up the opening.
Lightly mark on the lines of the pumpkin sections as shown on the pattern.
Using about 3 strands of matching floss, stitch through the pumpkin from back to front, starting at the top ( to hide knots). Pull each stitch firmly until taut working to the base. Repeat for each section - it should look like this ~

Now you are ready to cut out the crow shape from 2 pieces of calico or such, remembering to leave 1/4" around the trace and sew line to cut it out.

Paint the crow black but its beak orange and leave to dry then sand lightly.
Next cut out a rectangle of osnaberg or such approx. 3" x 2". Leave edges rough and back stitch on the lettering Fall.

Assemble it altogether:
Stitch the 'Fall' patch on to your pumpkin using a running stitch. Attach where shown in my pic.
Make the stem and leaf from the templates given below and sew them on where marked at the top.
Tie a length of stained cheese cloth to the stem and add Spanish moss (if you wish) with glue from your glue gun and then glue on the crow.
Add some fall colored pipberry and glue on.
And finally take some thin rusty wire and push thru the pumpkin and twist in ends on either side of the pumpkin and you're ready to hang and display your pumpkin greeter!

Hope this makes sense to you, but if you've any queries just let me know and I'll try to help!

Hey there, friends! Happy Monday!

I wanted to thank you dear girls for helping me out of my flunk and offering great advice!

You've helped me immensely and I thank you for taking the time to respond!

Well as you can see, I'm not done with fall! There are just too many lovely things to make!

This is what I mean~ I made this cornucopia filled with pumpkins and berries~
The horn is made from burlap and there is a stained cheesecloth tied round the mouth of the horn~

This was the quickest ever make! I just cut 3 triangles of calico and printed B - O - O on each triangle and glued them onto twine to string across a shelf for some fall decorating!!

I'm thinking I'll do another and painted the calico an orangey color and print FALL on it. We'll see - time is whizzing by too fast.

Feeling Torn...

Hello and here's wishing each and everyone of my sweet blog pals a happy September!

Is anyone else as confused as I am with this new blogger thing goin' on? I don't like change!

Probably because September also means the children leave me again for a new year at school and I miss them - squabbles and all! - and my b'day is this month and I'm reminded that I'm getting older!

Forgive me for sounding a bit down for I'm also reminded of God's goodness to me for another year in His faithfulness to us and that there is plenty in the harvest in our land so we are blessed!

There you go! I feel better all ready - better to count our blessings and it does me the world of good!

But to get to the title of my post, I am torn this way and that over a couple of things.

Nothing serious I'm glad to say. I'm torn between making more Fall things and came across some patterns I'd forgotten about, or do I go full steam ahead and make Christmas stuff?

As you can see I did make this fun candy cone bag with 'trick or treat' on it from a free pattern you can download from Country Sampler website. As I can't get the magazine over here I go online to see pics from the latest edition and get a 'fix' that way!!

But as you can see I've also made a start on These for Christmas - don't know yet whether or not I'll do a Christmas craft fayre coming up in Nov.

The other thing that's been on my mind recently is whether or not to keep my selling blog going. There's not much interest and I can put that down to several reasons so maybe I'm thinking it would be better just to offer things on this blog or is an Etsy the way to go? I really don't know!!

I know I'm not the most talented stitcher and crafter in the world but I just can't tell what would sell best?

I had thought cross stitch would do well and I love doing it but then it takes ages to complete some and interest fades. Maybe I've just got too much going on....

Anyhoooo... your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

They look ready for the cooler weather all huddled together in this wood tote in my kitchen!
In fact my two girls love them so much, I've duly promised to make them some owls too - only they will be made in bedroom color co-ordinating felt!

Ohh, and we had another visitor here yesterday when my brother and niece came for dinner and brought Oscar, their adorable little S hi-tzu - he's so well behaved and fluffy and ever so cute!

I hope everyone has a great weekend - we are watching the news updates here, re. Irene and I sincerely hope it turns out to sea and fizzles out.

Stitched Up

Hurray! I finally got a couple more pillows stitched up!

I must be feeling rather sluggish with this sinus infection and when I was cross stitiching I had to stop every so often because my head would be spinning! Not good!

I used a Country Rustic Primitives pattern but re-worked it in parts to make a tuck pillow.

And the other pillow I finished was this fruit bowl for fall pattern by 'Bits and Pieces by Joan'.
It's made from wool - love the colors and I think most bloggers are ready for fall!

Dear blogging friends, I was totally overwhelmed by all your congratulations to us on our wedding anniversary and regarding my woolie pineapple!

THANK YOU doesn't seem enough, so by way of special thanks and my way of letting you know how much I value your visits, I'd like to offer you a freebie pattern I've designed for fall.

It's a candle mat you could make from wool or wool felt or even fabrics of your choice!

It features some applique acorns but you could just as easily do pumpkins or leaves or pears etc!

Here's how mine looks~Here's how it looks with a candle~

Below is the template pattern which I hope you'll be able to download - click to enlarge~

Instructions~

Cut one of each size of oval background fabric.

On the top layer, trace on the words and berry strands and stitch them in in dark colored floss.
(I used 6 strands of DMC dark brown for the words and 3 strands of the same color for the berry strands.)
Stitch on the pip berries using 2 strands of floss doing a French knot.
Using the templates, cut out 4 of each part of the acorns and stitch into position.
Now you are ready to blanket stitch the top layer onto the base layer of your mat, using 3 strands of floss.
Repeat the whole way around the outer edge of your mat.
YOU DID IT!
Admire your handiwork and enjoy in your fall decorating!

Hello sweet friends, I'm just popping in for a quick post as this is our 18th wedding anniversary and as hubby is off work today, we are going out and hope to enjoy a lovely meal together and reminisce about our wedding day and where the last 18 yrs have gone!

I treated myself to the luxury of some sewing time to finish this woolie project - something I have always wanted - a wool pineapple!

A Couple of My latest Prim Creations

Have you ever found yourself stitching, working or involved in some project and then an idea pops into your head and you just HAVE to set other things aside and follow the impulse?

Well, yesterday I was back home with the kids after spending the morning at the play park and we'd had lunch. I was settling down to work on a fall pattern when I had to put it aside and make this instead~
I have long admired prim swans and whilst on holiday in Lancaster County, I looked at the wooden carved swans for sale but always put them back - I just couldn't bring myself to pay the kind of prices being asked and had to remind myself we had a budget (though sometimes I did forget.... oops!)

Next best thing, I took to making a pattern myself and after a few hours this is what I came up with~

The only difficulty was turning it right side out and stuffing the head! But other than that the end result was what I hoped for and wanted for this dough bowl~

The other prim creation I got around to making yesterday was this bread board paddle. Had to get Dh to fix the jig saw but then I was on a roll and up to my eyes in black paint - yes, I am a messy crafter :-)
I got a little arrangement going on with it that hints of fall~

And last but not least a sneak peak at the original fall pattern I was supposed to be stitchin' yesterday! Loving those colors! And yes, that's some of the wool I bought!

Storage & Stuff...

This is my new - by that I mean 'new-to-me' - pine cupboard. It's great to have it for a couple of reasons~ it used to belong to my hubby's grandmother and we were more than fond of her, so to have something that she owned is special, but for a more practical reason I'm glad to have it as I desperately need storage solutions for my craft/prim den/computer room.

The room itself is pretty small - compact and bijou- or in our common phraseology, you couldn't swing a cat in it, and I hasten to add that I've never tried to swing a cat in it and never would, so cat lovers, pleased do not be offended!!!

I do like how it fits into the room - the pic below is what you see as you walk in, it is directly facing the doorway.

Well, I couldn't wait to get all organised and pretend to be efficient and neat and tidy so I'll show you a few pics of my efforts at straightening things up, because by tomorrow, things will hardly be so ship-shape as I rifle through my stash in a hurry to finish something!

Now while all this is great, I confess to being a wee bit disappointed with my latest storage solution - where do I put all the other STUFF? I've so many other plastic bags crammed full of odd bits and pieces, scraps, makedos, decorations for different seasons and I am tired of tripping over them but I seriously underestimated how much stuff I have lying around.

What do you do to store your stuff? I've bagfuls in the attic space and we don't have a basement. If you've got any clever solutions, please HELP!!

Oh well, I suppose this is what happens when you keep stitchin' and makin' stuff and finding more great freebie patterns!
I found this free harvest pattern on Pamela Dervarits beautiful blog 'Our Pioneer Homestead' blog.
She is a very talented girl and her blog is inspirational.

The only other stitchin' done this week was another freebie from Kountry Porch Primitives.
I have simplified the pattern though - just for time's sake.

FRIDAY - FINISHES & FAMILY

Hey friends!
hope you've been enjoying summer this week! We have had a fun filled family week here with great weather and a few outings. Thought I'd share one of the 'high'lights with you of our hike up Cavehill, the hill which shelters Belfast from the north and overlooks the city and the lough.
Even though we only live 10 miles away, I'd never climbed it before, nor had the kids, but my mountain bike lovin' hubby has cycled over it several times - though I don't know where he found the breath for the climb, it's steep and scary on the way down.

This is the view from a street way below~

It took about an hour to climb at a slow rate! But the views from the top are fantastic - we could see for 25 miles to the south toward the Mourne mountains~ (click to enlarge)

Below is the view northwards up Belfast lough where the ferries head out towards Scotland~

On the way down we went through the beautiful grounds and gardens of Belfast Castle, a popular venue for weddings~

The gardens are well laid out and there is a special mosaic of the castle cat, a legend which says as long as a cat lives in the castle, there will be good fortune to all in the castle~
Here's a couple of things I finished this week. I made another mouse this time from wool felt in a beige mouse color and have made her into a harvest mouse getting ready for fall!

Then was this pinkeep from Primitive Betty. It's so pretty - sunflowers and crows work well together!After all that hustle and bustle it's time to sit down and put my feet up and have a cup of tea!

Hi friends. Just wanted to post a bit more about our trip - hope you aren't bored but I love reliving it!!

Last year I told you about the gorgeous B&B we stayed in in Amish countryside andsaid I'd love to go back some day - well hubby is so good to me and we were able to stay at Stony Hill Barn B&B again this year and it is just so lovely as are the owners and their family - our children really enjoyed playing there with their children and pets! Here are a few pics of the interior~

Beautiful prim touches everywhere and the beds are the comfiest - so says our daughter!

Here are just some of the prims I had to bring home with me!

Love the little pouch which is handmade in Ohio

We drove to Lititz which is a very picturesque town - we loved Wilbur chocolate too!
Sorry to say that we had camera woes and lost those photos :-(

But I did get this lovely table runner -

and the old basket with some greens and old bobbins,

I liked these little jars and just have to find the right spot in the cupboard for them~

Couldn't resist another Americana basket!
At the Old Mill Shoppes I loved these stacking boxes - the colors are wonderful,

Our few Days in Lancaster County

Firstly, can I say a BIG thank you to all who left wonderful comments on my last post! It still thrills me no end to think folks out there take time to read my blog! And I want to welcome new followers too! It 's good to have you stop by and even nicer to read your comments!

I'm back with more from our trip and lots of pics! I got my photos uploaded in the wrong order so I'll just go ahead a show you my latest creature - a patriotic mouse! I'm seeing lots of them over blogland and made up a quick and easy pattern and here's how he looks~

The next few pics were taken in Strasburg. In my last post I showed pic of Hodge Podge and this was the shop across the street which did framing but also had four rooms of prims - really nice windows though it was hard to stop the reflection~

The Uncle Sam doll in the above pic was amazing! The pic below shows a small part of their latest fall decorated room~

This was a first for me - finding a real, genuine covered bridge!! I was so excited about this, though I don't know exactly why!!!

It was in a beautiful place over the Pequea Creek and the homes around it were gorgeous!

Of course we made it in to Intercourse and I had to visit the Old Candle Barn and other pretty little prim shops along the Old Phila. Pike. The joke now is on my DH as I can say I'm not the only one who buys from prim shops!!! He bought these bicycle signs!! I do like them too!

Here are some of my purchases, and you all know how much I love Americana!!
Braided rugs are just not available in stores over here so this year I treated myself to a lovely mid sized rug for the kitchen/living area and the colors are along the lines of red white and blue so I'm pleased with it!
And there's more but I'll have to post another time as the kiddos want some love and attention!

The Road Trip is over...

Hello again - we're back home after 16 terrific days in the States on a bit of a road trip! So I'm just popping in to say 'Hi!' and share a few highlights for now as I don't seem to be fully over jet lag and I'm making too many typos!! Hope I still remember how to upload the photos!!!

We certainly had a fantastic time seeing the sights and enjoying eating out at so many great restaurants, making the most of the sunshine and sea etc!

As you can well believe, I was on a mission also whilst in the USA. I wanted to stock up on supplies that are just well nigh impossible to find over here and the main one I wanted was wool fabric. What a search we had even in PA and MD. for wool. Seems like everyone is closing down.
We detoured thru Cockeysville MD to find Cockeysville Country Store which I'd found online and seen the wool in store. We arrived and found a sweet lady in a neighboring antique store who told us the store had closed and gone out of business. Needless to say I was disappointed, big time :-(

But I did not despair completely! Until I arrived and saw these signs at the Olde Peddler Wool store in Morgantown PA. I couldn't believe it that another store was going to close and thought that we were too late. We went in and I only saw knitting wool - not what I needed and that's when i nearly cried until I saw a little twisty stair case and it was like going over the rainbow to find this!!! Two rooms of wool and with 50% OFF!!!! By this point my kids knew for sure that their mother was deranged and shook their heads despairingly!!LOL!

The owner was so lovely to chat with and explained that she was closing to spend more time with family - I was just so relieved to get so much lovely wool at bargain prices! Here are some of the colors I picked out - yummy wool!I also found Hodge Podge in Strasburg PA, a great little shop selling cross stitch supplies and such so it was fun picking out threads and linen and a few charts for the winter months.

Along the way I also picked out some more fabrics and patterns - so enjoyable when you can browse a shop full of dry goods!
Well I'm going to have to call it a day and get some shut eye but thanks for stoppin' by and I hope to be back early next week with some more tales of our trip!

Happy summertime! Officially!

GIVEAWAY TIME!

Hello dear blogging friends and welcome!

Apologies for being a 'bad' blogger of late - it's just been one thing after another, nothing terrible I'm glad to say, just lots of time needed elsewhere etc, etc!

But as many of you know, I LOVE Americana and when I saw this freebie pattern on Tennessee Ridge Primitives website I just had to make it - or one very similar!!
I hope you all like it as I'm going to give it away to one of you in a couple of weeks!

It is approx. 22" long inc. hanger and contains a crow, a flag (not handmade) and a painted star.
On the stocking I sewed on the letters USA and trailed a rusty wire and star garland down it. There is also a little rusty star on the toe and some pip berry in the top of the stocking.

The rules are very straightforward~

Finally... Some Finishes!

Where did that week go? I can hardly believe it was a week ago that I shared some of the Americana projects I was working on and it's taken me this long to get them together to post about!

Oh well, I'm sure we've all been there, done that, and still doing all of the things that are just part of everyday life.

My favorite is this wool felt penny rug from a Country Stitches pattern - I love it! Though I must put my hand up and confess that it's not quite finished as I still have to sewn on the pennies around the edge.
This is the other end of the mat~ (can you just see the little apples in the trees?) The sheep are better in real life too - all woolly french knots!

This was a beautiful 1776 cross stitch freebie from the Sampler Girl's blog - it's small but lovely to make.

Here are a couple of matching birds I made up myself ~
And lastly for now here's Liberty and Crow made into a pillow and stained!

I will be listing some of these on my blog The Primitive Shelf later if any one is interested in some Americana bits and pieces for their home!

Hi friends!

Is it just me or is it the season? I mean I'm going round in circles!!! I feel like the bees flitting around the flowers in my garden only I'm flitting from one project to another!

I'm so full of ideas and rarin' to do this one, then that one - so much so I'm working on at least six different things! Spring fever I think!! I need to settle down! lol! It's also getting to the red white and blue season and guess what? Yes most of the things I'm doing involve those colors and stars and stripes!!

And other stitchin' projects for summer!

I've even got a painting makeover on the go as well! That means My projects are taking over the dining room, kitchen, study and I'm sitting in our living room stitching too!

Hello again! After a lovely Easter break with the kids enjoying the best weather we've known at this time of the year, it's about time I posted something new - not that I've been doing much with my needle and thread, apart from this new cross stitch pattern I've designed and thought I'd share with anyone who'd like to stitch it!

Bluebells are one of my favourite Spring flowers and always remind me of our old home in the country when I'd gather bouquets of bluebells for my mother.
Close to where we live now is a great wooded glen and it's filled with bluebells at the moment so I had to go and gather some for myself - their color is amazing and each flower is so delicate.
So I had to stitch something and here it is for you to enjoy!

I used 32 ct linen and 2 strands of DMC floss 161 for the bluebells - it's a perfect match for them!

I just put mine in a frame alongside the vase of bluebells -
You are most welcome to use this but I'd appreciate it if you give credit to me as the designer and I'd really love to see your finished pieces if you'd be so good as to share them with me!

MORE Cutter Quilt fun and Easter Bunnies!

Hello friends and welcome! Just a few things to share with you all today.
The postman has been nice this week and brought me my long awaited package from one of my favorite designers - take a peek at this just for a teaser at a few things I'm going to be enjoying soon!

I know you can't see much YET but that would spoil the finish/ end result, now wouldn't it!!
I've been wanting to try punch needle again and so as not to complicate things I just did this little tulip pattern for a spring ditty bag~

But these bunnies I made up this week bring a smile to my face. I made them based on one of Robin's freebie doodles from her lovely blog Bird in the Hand Primitives.
This is the baby bunny...
And this is Mummy Bunny...in her cutter quilt apron! I was wondering what to dress her in when I saw the remnant of cutter quilt and BINGO! knew she'd look great in it with a pocket full of herbs from the garden!

Well our Spring break has got off to a lovely start weather wise with warm sunny days. We've been out and about enjoying the fresh air on rambles and picnics and I've got some painting and gardening done too!

I'll leave you with another sneak peek at a project I've got lined up involving this item from ebay which arrived the other day....

Cutter Quilt Fun

Hello friends! How are you this fine Saturday?

I am feeling good as we are going to take it easy the next couple of weeks with the kids being off school and no hurry to do much except enjoy the fine spring weather and have fun! (Spring cleaning has been conveniently assigned to a hiding place somewhere in the back of my mind and given a rest too!!!)

So I got to enjoying myself with a whole day of sewing whatever I wanted!!! How good does that sound?!!! The kids were happy to play outside with friends and come in only when refuelling was required!

I happily took my scissors to an old quilt which was crying out to be made into spring/Easter makedo's and of course I gladly obliged!

I got to making this Easter Egg make do on an old bobbin - I fastened the Easter banner on with rusty pins and that way I can easily change it if I need to~

Next off I made this sweet as can be little bag and attached the Spring with pins again and put in some dried fir branches which kinda resembles sweet annie - well maybe if you don't look too closely! ;-)

These are quite bright pics but the quilt is in lovely spring colors tho' I have tea stained them and they do look more aged in reality.

And OH the luxury of having nothing pressing to do but sew! I even managed to cross stitch this freebie from Primitive Betty's - can't have too many peacock sticheries!

I'll probably make it into a pinkeep and sell it then - just didn't have time to do that as hubby just came home with dinner - my favorite, Chinese take away! Yumm!
Now that's pretty near a GREAT day in my book!

I'm just popping in for a quick query if any one can help - I didn't find google or forums too clear on the subject.

Is Shoppybag.com safe to sign up to?

I've received a couple of emails saying I've been tagged and sent a photo but I am then told to sign up to shoppybag.com to open it but when I checked it out some forums warned that it was a scam as once you sign up, your list of contacts can then be used by them and I for one am not comfortable with this.

So really what I'm asking is if this has been your experience and is it genuine? I don't want to be tagged or tag others without their consent or am I missing out on something?

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone in the know!

Sampler Finished!

It's taken me the best part of 3 mths to do, but hurray! I've just finished the 'Friends Gather Here' sampler by Stacy Nash! :-)

Last week I took to stitching some more of it and decided it was time to finish it! In between getting the garden sorted a bit and digging weeds etc, that is!! The weather here has been beautiful until today when we've had all 4 seasons rolled into one.

Here it is in a temporary frame I had sitting about - just wanted to get an idea of how it will look framed but I need to find a better sized one and prim it up.

I love the shades and hues used in this sampler. This is done on osnaburg - I'd started it on osnaburg before I found out what a joy it is to stitch on linen and the next one I do will be on linen for sure!

This might be all the stitching I get done for a while what with the kids off school for 2 wks come Friday and Easter outings I hope!

And tomorrow we have our oldest daughter celebrating her 12th birthday! I've already baked a Chocolate Cola cake at her request so we look forward to indulging tomorrow!

Celebrating my 2nd Blog Anniversary

On the 30 March 2009 I began blogging. I can hardly believe it, but as the saying goes,
'Time flies when you're having fun!' That is certainly true about blogging for me - it has become such an enjoyable part of my day! I love logging in to read kind, funny, encouraging and caring comments and then following the latest posts on so many other terrific blogs by people who have become friends and not just because we share a common hobby or interest.

It is time consuming but my DH can't complain as it was his suggestion that I start a blog. I think I did so because I wanted to learn from others who are amazing crafters and artists. It is such a great way to see primitive displays and creations - I've lost count of how many times I've read a post and thought 'WOW'! So what I'm really saying is that in light of such talent, THANK YOU for befriending me and inviting me in to share your life - it has been my privilege to step in and enjoy your company!

I started out from very humble beginnings as I was new to the world of primitive decorating and crafting. I'd never heard of penny rugs, sweet annie, dry sinks, jelly cabinets, punch needle, rug hooking and the like! Things I've grown to love and wish I had the time and money to indulge in!! LOL! Don't we all!!

I thought I'd look back over some of my fav posts and pictures and share a few ~

Made my first Prim Bear!

Hello friends!

I'm so pleased with my first ever hand sewn prim bear that I just finished that I had to show him off! I have to thank Jennifer of Stitchin' Thyme for inspiring me - thanks Jennifer!

If you read my last post, you'll remember this Spring time fella, Harvey Hare, made from smoky grey plush felt.
I had just enough fabric left over to make a bear so that's what I did Saturday! I was visiting my parents and found the perfect old buttons for eyes in my mum's large selection of buttons!
I posed him on the stairs and like him there but he could just as easily be hung from a peg as I can straightened out his legs.

Well it's the start of a busy week so I'm going to have to go and run errands for my DH and then maybe this afternoon do some more sewing! I'm definitely going to get more plush felt and make more bears - we've all fallen in love with this one whom we've named Reggie!

Spring has sprung!

Hello again! Spring has definitely arrived here in N. Ireland with gloriously WARM sunshine!
I've been sewing some but the fresh air is calling me outside and I think I'll have to tackle the garden pretty soon!

Here are some pictures of a few hastily arranged spring things I've put together and sewn in the past couple of days.

I used a freebie pattern by Cathy of Snugglebug Blessings, for this little bunny and just cross stitched SPRING on it with some spring motifs

And I finished up Primitive Betty's free Easter pinkeep~

I placed some little itty bitty x stitched motifs on my tree~

Below are three little Woodlander bunnies I used to collect - don't know what happened to the rest of them!

Meet Harvey my latest creation. He's made from a smoky brown plush - sorry about the light in these photos~

And last but not least, this day 10 years ago my sweet little boy arrived! How that decade has disappeared! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID!

And where does David want to go for his birthday? McDonald's!!! So that's where we're headed now - at least he's pretty easy pleased! Nothing fancy for him!

Pillow Talk...

A very Good Monday to all! It's great to have you call in for a visit - the kettle has just boiled and I'm about to make a pot of tea for anyone who'd care to join me.

I've also finished a couple projects and thought I'd share a few pictures.

I think this little spring bunny pillow turned out quite well, considering I didn't have a pattern - the ideas in my mind sometimes translate successfully onto fabric!Remember this x-stitch I came up with a few weeks ago? I made it into a pillow and I'm listing it on my selling blog if you're interested.

I'm also listing this little pin tuck pillow on The Primitive Shelf. It's from a pattern by Primitive Betty's - don't you just love the wee bunnies and the tulip?

This is a first for me - an alphabet sampler! It's a free pattern from Blackbird Designs - i just used what threads i had to hand for a muted look. I've had the prim frame for ages and stitched up this sampler to fit in it and love how it looks now~
Still stitching bunnies and Easter things so lots to do!

Meet Basil McTavish!

I got to finishing my entry for the Basil the Bunny Challenge being hosted by Wendy of Ravenwood Whimzies. There are so many fantastic entries already and you can see them all on Wendy's blog. The final date for entries is midnight March 15.

I had been planning to make a female bunny but when my 11 yo daughter saw the doll she suggested I make a gardener bunny. She picked the fabrics and so emerged Basil McTavish complete with wool waistcoat and matching flat cap. He's just dug up some carrots for tea!

It was so much fun seeing him progress!
I'm trying to get the time to finish some other stitchery odds and ends so I'll be back asap!

Willow Tree Tutorial

Hello friends and welcome! I've just had a go making a spring like weeping willow tree and hope you find these tips helpful in case you'd like to have a go too!

Here's what you need;
*sturdy branch cut to about 9-10" long
*wire
*florist tape in brown
*strips of green and white fabric for the leaves and blossoms
*wooden base with hole - you need to drill a hole the diameter of the branch
*glue
*brown paint for the base
*wire cutters

I started by cutting out leaves and blossoms and then I cut 10 lengths of the wire which were about 12" long - they need to be a bit longer than the branch in order to twist the wire around the branch to hold them in place.

Next I cut several lengths of the florist tape and began with a white 'bud' of fabric. I wrapped the tape around the fabric - it helps that the tape is quite sticky, so all you need to do is press it around the fabric very firmly and keep wrapping it around the wire as you work your way up the wire, adding leaves of green fabric as you go.

This is what a finished branch looked like~

This is repeated for each branch. T
Then twist the wire of each branch around the top of the branch and cover in the florist's tape.
Wrap the remainder of the branch in tape. Glue it into the painted base and finish with some moss around it.

I hope yours turns out well - I'm looking at these pics and think they look like a dead plant!
I'm good at killing plants! Not very green fingered at all!

Spring Cross stitch Sampler & WIP update

Another weekend is here!

We have a few things lined up, the big one being a party for my FIL's 75th birthday tomorrow and I need to sort somethings out for it. But before things get too busy I just thought I'd let you see my progress on the Stacy Nash sampler I started a few weeks back. I'm making slow headway though as the osnaburg is tough on the old eyes.It should be worth the effort - I hope I can do it justice as I'm prone to making mistakes when counting stitches!

Another reason why the Stacy Nash sampler is coming along slowly is that I let myself be waylaid, because I've been trying my hand at designing a spring sampler based on a verse found in the Song of Solomon 2 v11~ this is my first attempt but it isn't prim enough for my liking ~

So it was back to the grid paper and a change of thread colors and this is what I finished up yesterday. I tea stained it for an aged look but not entirely sure about that lol!

The main thing I love about this is that for the first time I got to stitch on REAL linen 28ct and to my surprise (after a few false starts!!) I found it lovely to work on! So from now on I'll use linen and I have to thank Lisa for helping me out here and sending me some linens to try!

Been Junkin'...

in my attic! It's all stuff I had long since forgotten about and stored away whilst we were redecorating some rooms in our home years ago!

I think it just goes to show that loving 'primitive' style has always been in my nature - just who I am and what I feel akin to deep down... Annnnyhoooow aside from indepth psychological analysis, here's some of the stuff I found or rather rediscovered today pokin' about...

These are silhouettes of DH and me that we had made when on holiday many moons ago.

Seems I get alot of stuff on holiday as these beautiful crotchet pieces were bought on honeymoon
It's really fine work~
With a bit of tea staining it can help a little prim display...
There were quite a few picture frames in amongst the boxes and I know exactly what I'll do with them as i had these cards of Billy Jacob prints lined up...

So that's what I've been doing today aside from amusing the 3 kiddos who are off school for half term. We were rollerblading and then the rain came on so we played a good old favorite, Monopoly. Funny how old is sometimes best...

Just a sweet little token of love from hubby - he knows exactly what chocolate I crave - can't beat a Cadbury's Creme Egg!

What could be more touching than my own wee children giving me handmade Valentine cards with notes of love?

But above all I've been thinking of the love of God to me - beyond compare that He should love me and give His Son for me John 3 verse 16 is TRUE LOVE

WoW!! And This little Light of Mine!

I'M SOOO GLAD I STARTED BLOGGING!

So in honor of this, I'm going to have a drawing for a surprise giveaway for my friends - all you need to do is leave a comment on this post, be a follower of my blog and your in!

Now to the other part of my post which is all about my love/ obsession with lamps and lighting.

Ever since my husband and I set up home together, I was always on the look out for interesting lamps and lampshades for our home as I think they make a home cozy and inviting.
So when I fell in love with prim decor, I immediately started to look for lamps and as you know, there's no shortage of gorgeous prim light fixtures etc.
My only problem is that here in the UK, we use more voltage so I am having to buy lots of adapters or if I had ceiling fixtures I'd need an electrician! :-(

But little flickering battery operated candles are very effective and I love their glow~

This little lamplighter has very romantic memories for us as we got it on honeymoon!

But my favorite lamps have to be tin punched lamps! I had never come across them before but it was love at first sight! lol!

I specially love the pattern they cast on the wall behind.

And as you can probably tell I also love stars!
I only managed to get one stitchery finished this week so far another freebie from Primitive Betty's for Valentine's.

I know I've said it before, but it's encouraging to know there are so many kind friends in blogland who visit and comment and TAKE THE TIME to be a friend.
Thanks to you all who stop by and read and a special welcome to all my newest followers - it's great to have you join in!

I have a few completed projects to share with you - still on a Valentine theme, I seem to be heart crazy at the moment!

This was a really easy quick little candle jar hugger I made just for fun!I also had fun stitching this 6" heart pin keep with letters and numbers for Feb. 14.

In my last post I shared the little x stitch chart and to my shame I've only got this far with it myself lol!I usually work on 18 ct Aida cloth partly because I've been on a learning curve doing x stitch but I confess because I'm a tad impatient and it is quicker to finish up patterns on Aida.
However, I'm not so sure about its prim credentials and the finished x stitch looks so much better, or to coin a word, 'primmer' on linen or osnaburg.
Not having linen, I've gone with osnaburg for this Stacy Nash pattern I've been itching to get started on.
And this is now where I begin to feel the old impatience flaring up. It is so much slower for me and I have to watch for mistakes in the uneven weave of the osnaburg. But I tell myself the end result will be worth it! So this is my WIP for the next few weeks I'm sure!Isn't there something about a piece of needle work in a hoop that just takes you back in time?
I am transported back in my imagination to the days of Jane Eyre or some Jane Austen heroine!
I love the simplicity of that photo and could look at it for ages! But that's just me and my flights of fancy! Don't you ever do the same?

Hi one and all it's so good to have you visit as we near another weekend! That means Feb 14 is closer so I thought I'd decorate just a little and show you a few more of my hand dids as that crafting bug still has me this week also! LOL!

I love Primitive Betty's and here's a little Valentine pin keep I got finished - it's really sweet!

I placed it in front of my heart shaped wire basket on this shelf and put lots of homespun fabric hearts in it.

This is my little teeny weeny kitchen tree with more itty bitty homespun hearts on it.
I made up this door hanger a while back

This is the shelf in my entry way~

I made the heart/love garland and a dear friend of mine gave me the LOVE letter sign.

Some stitchin' for Valentine's!

Yes, I think the Valentine stitchin' love bug must have bitten me! I've been busy stitching away all last week which is why I'm only getting to posting now.

There are so many talented designers who offer free patterns that I'm struggling to find time to start them all! I've been really trying hard to finish one project before starting a new one! But it's REALLY HARD when ever day I come across more lovely patterns!

Here's what I've managed to accomplish~

Robin, from Bird-in-the-Hand Primitives had this freebie doodle and I drew up a pattern from her doodle for this Cupid and hand sewed him - hasn't he a comical face! I'm always surprised at the faces my creations end up with!
I love the reds in this little pillow and I used 'The Sampler Girl's free Be Mine pattern.

This is such a cute little pin keep from a freebie by Primitive Betty's
This cool blues for winter is a design by Appleseed Prim and I'm pleased with the end result for a pinkeep.

Lastly this is another pattern from The Sampler Girl for Valentine's

I've still got loads more ideas and things to stitch so guess what? The housework might just suffer a bit (more) this week! lol!

A visit to the Irish Linen Museum to see old Sampler

Today I did something out of my normal routine and probably something I should have done ages ago. I went to the Irish Linen Museum for a visit!
It was prompted by this sampler which I read about in my old high school magazine by a young girl Hannah Morison who it is believed, emigrated with her husband John Burrows to the New World in 1815.
It is believed she was taught the art of needlepoint by a talented seamstress Sarah Dickenson who taught at the Quaker school founded in 1774.

Amazingly it was bought several years ago by a lady in Vancouver, Washington State at a church sale who appreciated the value of such a piece of work from nearly 2 centuries ago and very kindly gifted it back to the town of origin mentioned in the sampler - the very town I grew up in!
So I went to see it on display and can tell you it is a wonderful example of needle point by a girl of only 14.
I toured the rest of the museum with interesting looms and weaving history and beautiful Irish linen cloth and clothes. You wouldn't believe the amount of work needed to prepare patterns in damask and set up the loom.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed my visit.

New Year and New Doll!

Hello blog pals!
Already one week of the new year gone and I'm only now getting around to posting - mainly because I just needed a break so please forgive me for not visiting and commenting on your blogs.
Not much has been happening until today that is!! I have been busy trying to clean up about home and I tell myself that it's early (very early, too early!! ) spring cleaning!

I had finished cleaning the windows and sat down to lunch today when the postman rang my doorbell and gave me a long awaited package!

Take a look at this awesome rag doll by Faye of Primitive Lace. Faye is one of the sweetest bloggers you'll ever meet and a dear sister in the Lord. She is such a blessing to know!
Her dress and coat are beautiful!

Back in Nov. Faye and I agreed to a swap and what with postal disruptions and poor weather, Faye's gift arrived today! I'm so glad it arrived at last! We both thought it must have been lost in the post and gone for good but it's here - safe and sound all the way from Canada!! HURRAY!!

Now if you've never visited Faye's blog you really are missing out! Faye calls her blogs Primitive Lace and The Blessed Hearth and you need to follow. Faye is not only a talented crafter but a homemaker with a wealth of tips and recipes and encouragement that will bless your heart and home!

Here's a close up of her face and hair - it's just wonderful! I'm so thrilled to have a such an amazing raggy doll!!
She's got the cutest ever little ditty bag with a snowman inside! This pic show a close up of the bag which Faye tells me is made from 'Anne of Green Gables' fabric from Prince Edward Island!
How fantastic is that?!!! I have loved 'Anne of Green Gables' since I was a slip of a girl and one of my dreams is to visit P.E.I some day.

Faye allowed me to name her so I've decided to call her Miss Cordelia as that was what Anne wanted to be called!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FAYE, FOR SUCH A BEAUTIFUL GIFT! I LOVE HER!
I am so pleased we got to do this swap!

Silly me forgot to take a pic of the gift I made for Faye so I hope Faye doesn't mind me 'borrowing' the one from her post.

I'm only just getting back to stitching and have a few projects on the go which I will post about soon as I make more progress on them. Gotta make some Valentine hearts!

Gone for another year...

Didn't Christmas just fly past?!!!
Hope everyone enjoyed themselves - we did and the children filled the house with screams of excitement on Christmas morning - I love watching their faces, that's my favorite part of Christmas! Okay, I DO love my Christmas dinner too! My parents came over for Christmas lunch and we had a lovely meal together. On Boxing Day we visited my husband's parents and enjoyed more food and family time together.

My oldest couldn't believe her eyes when she realized her dreams had come true and she was finally holding her very own ipod touch!

I also wanted to show you a new Santa I made from Mr Jingles pattern by The Olde Country Cupboard. I didn't make legs for him but adapted him slightly and made his coat a bit longer to prop him up instead. Here's what he looks like, free standing, in the midst of some fairy lights which I am tidying away for another year. I've already got the main tree etc packed away and thoroughly cleaned the main living room and it feels GOOD to have the room back to basics ... I feel a strong need to de-clutter the house in the next few weeks. We just seem to have accumulated STUFF and I need to clear it OUT!

Still, it's kind of sad putting away all those Christmas decorations when we look forward to Christmas so much and then it's over in a flash!

But here's hoping 2011 is a great year too!

I AM SOOO PLEASED WITH MY NEW PENNY RUG

I am soooo pleased with my new penny rug which I just finished stitching up! And I have to say again that I LOVE Brenda Gervais' patterns at Country Stitches. Even though this is an older pattern, as soon as I saw it on the website, I was in love! (It was a little Christmas treat for myself :-) -Do you ever give yourself little treats like that? P-)
And I'm not disappointed - what do you think of it?

Isn't the Santa gorgeous? I love the reindeers and little snowflakes!

It's about 34" in length and by just stitching a little every now and then when I got the chance it didn't seem to hard to blanket stitch 31 'tongues'.

Isn't this a great detail on the 3 tongues?!!

I also got a couple of other x stitch patterns finished but with sick girls at home this week I haven't yet fixed up some other Christmas arrangements done. Thankfully they are on the mend and we hope it all goes and we can enjoy Christmas.

This is such a pretty freebie pattern from Threadwork Primitives byNan and looks just right in the greens.
We're watching snow falling here tonight and it might keep us indoors tomorrow. I hope it doesn't stay too long because we have some family get togethers planned for the weekend.

Well, I hope everyone is warm and cozy and not stressing out over all the season's rush!
Enjoy it and remember to thank God for His unspeakable gift!

Cheapest, Easiest Prim Tree ever!

So this is what I've been playing about with this week - my Christmas trees!

I've longed for a feather tree and don't tell my hubby, but I've ordered a 'proper' one.
In the meantime I found a way to make a 15" twig tree and it only cost a few pounds.
I found this online from England which makes postage cheaper than from the US and is perfect for the branches as it is wired.

It came in a 25ft long garland and is easy enough to cut.
It cost just over £3 - about $5-6 and I've used it for other decorations.
So next all I did was get a small branch about 15" long and started to make the top most branches first by wrapping around it tightly around the branch at one end, leaving a 2" twig sticking up straight.I wrapped it around a cut it to the length of twig I thought looked about right for a tree. I could make two branches at a time by letting my working end be the next branch.
I just kept on repeating this process gradually making the lower branches a bit longer as I worked my way down. This is how it worked on down~
When I was satisfied with my little tree I put it in a plastic pot filled with modeling clay and tied burlap around the pot - here's how it looked then~

Just to tidy up the top of the pot I put some moss in the pot. Then I hung some dried orange slices on it for a prim finish and here it is! Gotta say I'm chuffed to bits with the result!!

I've still not finished other bits and pieces of my decorating for Christmas but here are some photos of my little tree in the kitchen~

~ and our main tree~I love traditional reds and whites on the tree so it's more whimsical than prim but the kids love it and so do I!! Maybe one day I'll have a tree done entirely in prim decorations!lol!

I even have an Americana teddy to hang on the tree!

Here's one of the items listed, a cute as can be snowman looking for a new home before he melts!!
We've had quite a bit of snow and yesterday the children were all off school much to their delight!
They tried to make a snowman but the snow is too powdery even for a good snowball fight!

We still managed to make it out to the continental Christmas markets in Belfast City centre but I found it a wee bit disappointing - all very same-y and no primitves :-(

But I'm still stitchin away at one of my Christmas projects and hope to finish it soon and will post pics then!
