What a Hoot!

I've just been having some fun today!  And made a new 'friend'!
As the children were all playing with their friends, I got some chores finished up (and procrastinated on several others!!) And decided to make an owl.  They seem as popular everywhere as they were last year.

I've seen them in jewelry, on cushions and shirts and ceramic ornaments as well as prim patterns.  So here's my Olly owl, a woolie guy for fall, my own pattern.

His wings are lined with checked wool and I used the same for feathers.
I had to improvise for eyes and used rusty bells - kinda cute!

Got a couple of cross stitch projects to finish and my, it struck me how quickly you can lose the knack of it - I know what to do but I'm so much slower being out of practice and my fingers seem to cramp up a bit!!

I was thinking the same about my prayer and Bible study time - in the summer there's so much going on that it's easy to let it slide, so I need to practice bending my knees more!

Have a great week, friends!  It's been good to catch up with you all and make new friends!

Best wishes

  6. He is so cute! I'm a fan of owls too and just love them on just about anything. Isn't it funny how some things just catch on like that? For a while I was seeing lil red foxes everywhere, now owls.

  15. Totally agree with that thought about being in the Word. I am always amazed how hard it is for me to get back to counted cross stitch too,
I love the owl. It just looks like you had fun making him.
    Have a wonderful day.

  16. Oh, I LOVE him!! Very clever of you...I never would have thought to do one like that!.. I know what you mean about being out of practice...I tried to sew some things and it took me twice as long as it should have. I just don't sew as much anymore...sigh...I miss it!...hugs, Jan

  17. I can't say enough about how darling your owl is! Owls are kind of my thing- being a teacher. Last name "Wise". Get it! You did a wonderful job!

What spoke to my heart was your illustration of being out of practice with prayer and reading God's Word. I feel like Summer should be better for doing this, but I seem to do worse at remembering! Thank you for the reminder! And showing your adorable owl!!!!!

Love and hugs, my dear friend!

  18. oh, cute. What a fun pattern. The rusty bells for eyes are perfect. I find I have a prayer always in my heart a little more than I find myself on my knees in the summer. It's so hard to remember. We do have a family prayer each morning during the school year right before I send them out the door. It really strengthens the family and the children as they are away in the world. -Steph-
