Midweek Mayhem

It's a bit chaotic at our house this week to say the least. Or maybe it's just me stressing about having workmen in the house. At long last (I won't tell you how long to save DH's blushes!) our shower room is being given a remodel.
Funny, I thought I'd be more excited - I've been planning and hoping to see it all come together for ages but now it feels more like I'm gritting my teeth and wishing it was done and dusted.
Speaking of which there's far too much dust -ugh! - and it is like grit in my teeth from chipping off old tiles and plaster and now I feel a visit to the dentist coming on - I do not jest - that awful niggling pain has started again :-(

Anyhoo, I've started a couple of new dolls and do just keep a check on their progress for a special event I'm thinking of... no prizes though, for guessing what kind of dolls I'm making!!And if anyone can help I'd love to hear from you: how can I make my round doll's head round and ball like instead of flat on top?

I appreciate you all stopping by and taking the time to comment.
Here's hoping the dust settles and we all enjoy calmer times come the weekend!

Best wishes

  1. Oh dear pain in the mouth is not good! I will be praying for you on that one, also that you get through this remodel. I am going to guess that the dolls are snowmen! Sorry I am so NOT creative so I can't help with the flat head. Good luck with the rest of the remodel.
    Be blessed,

  2. Awwww, Cindi! I was gonna guess snowmen! :) I will be praying for you too, Christine. We have not remodeled our home yet. There are some things I would like to do, but the thought of moving a couple of our bigger furniture pieces stresses me out. I hate the thought of emptying dishes and such. But dust, ewwww. Be careful. I hope you are wearing a mask so as not to breathe it in!!!! Ugh. Chipping tiles too. Ugh. I would help you if I were there. Well, with my track record with being Anne, you may not want my help... But the flat head thing, yeah, I have no idea. But I want to know the same thing! So, I am going to keep my eyes on this post. But, I kind of like the heads the way they are. Why can't snowmen have flat heads! ;)

Thank you for your comment, yes that is my porch in early morning.
I wish I could help you with your dolls. I have two chicken dolls by my sewing machine that I should just finish.

  9. So sorry to hear about your teeth/mouth pain! I have lived w/remodeling for YEARS!! But just think of the outcome when all the dust settles! You'll get to decorate it!! :))
Ok, here's a little tip you might want to try for the round head on your dolls - get a round styrofoam ball and 'carve' it a bit, then layer it w/batting under the muslin. Does that make any sense?

  10. Hang in there, you will love it when it's done! Boy, I know what you mean, though, I've had my moments COVERED in plaster dust, tripping over out-of-place belongings and tools, wondering if things will ever look normal again...!! :-P Remember, IT WILL! :-D

As for the doll heads, maybe try making/keeping the stuffing round, then fitting the "skin" over it....when I used to make Waldorf dolls, I would start with a small cotton-yarn ball, and wrap my wool batting around that, THEN fitting the fabric over my perfect round ball! Maybe that would work for you? Good Luck!! I can't wait to see what you are making! ;-D

  12. Hi Christine

Remodeling, I don't like it. The chaos, the mess, ... But you'll be so happy when you see the result. Maybe you can share pics?

The dolls ... I have no idea what you're making. I guess the left and smaller one is a ghost? Maybe you can buy a styrofoam ball for the head?

Enjoy your weekend, hopefully without tooth ache!!
