Godly Mothers

I wasn't really sure how my testimony would be received in blogland, but I have to thank all of you who shared a word of testimony with me. It was such a blessing to read how God moves in our lives and is willing to forgive us and live in us - Praise God He is merciful!

As I read several of those shared testimonies, it struck me how God has used mothers in our lives.
I was reminded again of the inestimable worth of having a godly mother and of being a godly mother!

As it is Mother's Day in the US tomorrow, I thought I would share with you a little of the blessing I have felt of having one the godliest mothers and my own struggles to be a godly mother.

I am so blessed to have a saved mother and her only desire for me and my two brothers was that God would save us and use us for His glory.
When I was born, my father was still out of Christ so my mom prayed and read the Scriptures with us by herself. A memory that will be with me always is finding my mother on her knees with the Bible open in front of her and hearing her praying earnestly for us. What an example!
I thank God for my mom who still prays like that; I am blessed today by her interceding at the throne of Grace for me!
It was because my mother taught me of the Savior's dying love that I knew to call upon the Lord for salvation and the first person to whom I confessed the Lord was my own sweet mother!

Now we would both pray for my dad and brothers and indeed the Lord answered and saved them in the next couple of years.
I can see what a Christian is really supposed to be like when I see my mom. As Proverbs 31 v.26-31 describes the godly woman, 'Her children rise up and call her blessed... a woman that feareth the Lord she shall be praised.'
And this is exactly what I pray God would help me to be before my 3 children, whom the Lord has entrusted to my charge. What a responsibility! What a struggle!

I confess as a mother that it is so hard to make the time to instruct them in the ways of God when there are many demands on us and so many distractions around. I long for them to love the family time of prayer and Bible reading. Psalm 144 v 11 & 12, 'Rid me and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speak vanity... That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth, that our daughters may be as cornerstones, polished after the similitude of a palace.'
I could pray for nothing higher or greater than that my children be taught of the Lord and great shall be their peace Isaiah 54, 13.
God bless us as mothers and thank God for godly mothers. After giving us His Son, the next best gift God gives any of us is a God fearing mother.

Have a blessed Mother's Day!

  2. My mother has been saved for 50+ years. She helped to lead my dad to the Lord as well as most of her children and several others. I don't remember ever seeing her without her BIBLE close at hand. Instead of being lectured as a child for something we did wrong, we were quoted scriptures. I have a wonderful God fearing mother and I am so thankful for her. She is a testament to mothers everywhere.
God Bless you this Mother's Day and your mother too. You will reap what you've sown when you get to heaven. Oh what a day that will be!

  3. I am right there with you Christine-such a great blessing to have a praying mum. We grew up hearing the comforting sound, morning and night of my mums prayers and I am thankful that they still continue for us. What a heritage we have.

It sure can be a struggle, but my prayer is, that I will leave a similar legacy-by Gods grace!

Your children are very blessed with you as their mother. Thanks for sharing,
    Blessings, Shazy x

  7. Happy Mother's Day and God Bless you my bloggy friend :) I am ever so thankful to have a heritage of faith passed down through my own Mother. I love seeing it continue in my own family. My Mom and I just spent last weekend at a Ladies Retreat and I was reminded what a blessing it is to share the Lord with my Mom.

  10. I LOVE Proverbs 31. I think that is wonderful that you can quote that about your mom. I know your kids are fortunate that you are raising them just as your mom raised you.

I strive to leave that kind of legacy behind for my children. Like you said... it's so hard with all the demands and disruptions in life. But what a testimony when we can give it all to God and He can make such peace out of it all.

  13. When God blessed us to be Mother's he
changed our lives forever. He gave us the the wonderful job of loving and caring for another and in trusted us with a soul to prepare for salvation. I always told my youngest God picked him fresh off the baby soul tree in heaven and sent him to me because he knew just which one was the right one for me. He never gives us a job he knows we will fail at.
